Streaming Media...

For specific projects where multimedia is required and text and static images won’t be sufficient, for example to advertise tourist attractions or to create a web radio or even television, we can add this possibility through streaming video and audio. You can either transmit live data from any audiovisual source or playback recorded media in a realtime transmitting fashion (no downloading).

TuneMo - Flash Interface

May 12th, 2008 by Makis

This was created for TuneMo, a mobile content company releasing their content to a worldwide scale. It was used as a landing page from online ad campaigns so the company wanted something eye-catching and simple to use:

This is a completely skinnable interface, which means all the visual elements are loaded from external files and can be replaced pretty easily. The content for the application and the playlist of the videos is driven through XML files. Custom actionscript code was needed for the creation of the gallery and the animation sequences.

It started as a small side-project but ended up being quite demanding and time-consuming. But it was nice to exercise my AS2 skills once again…

RACP Case 1 - Chlamydia

July 13th, 2007 by Makis

This case study was sponsored by The Royal Australasian College of Physicians and Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine in association with ThinkGP. It was the first of three case studies as part of an ALM on sexually transmissible infections and Chlamydia. Each case had a different focus covering sexual history taking, testing for sexually transmissible infections and patient identification.

I wrote the back-end XML file that loads all the text and other media from external files (audio, video, images). I had to do some modifications on the flash application to include a custom help button and did the required image processing on the supplied material.

Yakusan.TV

June 29th, 2007 by Makis

This was my last project at Modus right before I left the office. It was done for Yakusan, an marketing group promoting alcohol brands by organizing live events across clubs around the world. This work was an update to their existing website and was considered a great and necessary investment for the future.

Essentially, this was an adaptation of a previous design I had done for VNR and as it’s predecessor it is a full flash website with streaming video for it’s main attraction. Although it has a different color scheme and slightly different navigation structure from the other website, I mostly found myself removing code and bug tracking the existing application.

VnR

March 9th, 2007 by Makis

This was an interesting project. I had to create a full flash website that covered 100% of the browser screen and streamed video on-demand. The purpose of the website was to promote VnR’s corporate DVD video production - the owner wanted the site to make an impression without being too “flashy”.

It is worth mentioning that all the content is dynamically imported from external files, controlled by an XML file. The flash site is connected with a user-friendly CMS, so the owner can add videos online and make them instantly appear in the flash site.

The video player was custom made with an autorun feature that can be disabled and an image placeholder to replace the video when it is not praying. The descriptive text on the side has an optional scrollbar that is shown only when the text exceeds its proper length.

Other interesting features (on a technology level) are that there are embedded HTML links in the content that control the application’s behavior and a login form that sends the login info data back to the CMS.

Modus Website

The first project I got assigned to when I went to work at Modus was the homepage of the company. Of course it had to be prestigious and clever. This is a flash website, created from scratch, solely by myself. Here is a screen of the final result:

My boss had the initial concept to create something similar to the iTunes viewer. I ended up creating many different animation sequences for the slide show, just to find the right one that would please the other colleagues.

The flash file itself is very customizable with variables controlling many things - the stage size, how the images fade out or tint out to the background, at what angle they are skewed giving an impression of pseudo-perspective and more. In addition, it was connected with the company’s CMS, storing the content in a database and having a script produce an XML file to import it inside the flash website. Overall, it’s a pretty stable construct considering that it was a solo job.
