KDIhost (2008)

March 5th, 2008 by Makis

For the past month I was mostly fine tuning KDIhost (actually spent two weeks more than scheduled). The old version of the website was perfectly functional but I felt it needed an upgrade after a couple of years of with the same design.

Visually it has a fresh look although based on the same minimalistic concept as the before, with transparent frames and metal buttons. As always the site is standards compliant and has an XHTML front-end.

The big differences are in the functionality of the website with a new user experience build from the ground up. The website may seem more typical now but is also more straight-forward.

Peeled Tracks – Myspace profile

February 4th, 2008 by Makis

Customized the Myspace profile of Peeled Tracks, the net label of my friend Fabrizio Gerada. You can find some really cool electronic music there of various artists from around the world, mostly on the techno side.

I did a full makeover of the default myspace page, covering most of the content and replacing it with my own custom layout. Most notable visual asset is the background that was created specifically for this project.

FUNside

November 17th, 2007 by Makis

Found the time to do a visual makeover on Fun Side, a personal notebook about various subjects resourced from the web.

I wanted a site that followed the main Web 2.0 directives, with bright colors but not too “cartoony”. The content here is the most important feature so that had to be in the spotlight.

I also wanted it designed with current standards, which was tedious work due to the fact that the site was originally running on Joomla. I ended up modifying a lot of Joomla’s core files. It wasn’t a good experience and I ended up using the more elegant WordPress platform instead.

Of course all of the content is written by me as well, which is an on-going effort…

A new skin for the mediawiki open-source cms, specifically designed for the intranet of BullRoarer.

For everyone that knows how the default skin looks like (something like Wikipedia), they can probably appreciate the transformation into this design. It was all done in CSS and with the least harmful way for the structure of the script, making it easier to upgrade to future versions.

Dreamway: Updated

September 5th, 2007 by Makis

Re-released my multimedia services front.

This time around the website functions solely as an online portfolio of my personal work. Shockwave elements have been implemented to showcase the 3d models and a variety of other technologies like Flash and JavaScript have been used to present the visual parts of the content.
